John Jones, RPh., J.D., FAMCP

John Jones is a nationally recognized expert in pharmacy practice, law, regulation, and health policy. Licensed as both a pharmacist and an attorney, he brings over 50 years of experience spanning chain and independent community pharmacy, hospital, home infusion, and managed care pharmacy.

John has applied his legal expertise to managed healthcare legislative policy, regulation, health insurance, healthcare contracting, and interstate regulatory compliance for prescription mail service, health plans, and pharmacy benefit management companies. He has been a leading voice in healthcare advocacy, presenting on policy issues before state boards of pharmacy, state legislatures, health insurance regulators, Congressional committees, and federal policymakers.

A former President of the California State Board of Pharmacy, John served on the board for eight years. He is currently a Clinical Professor of Pharmacy Law and Ethics at the University of California, Irvine, and has taught at the UC San Diego Skaggs School of Pharmacy since 2008. He is a frequent speaker at schools of pharmacy nationwide on health policy, legal, and regulatory topics.

From 2008 to 2024, John served on the Board of Directors of URAC, a national nonprofit healthcare accreditor, and chaired the board from 2012 to 2014. URAC’s 25 accreditation programs span the healthcare continuum, including six industry-leading pharmacy accreditations and telemedicine.

John has also been deeply involved with the Academy of Managed Care Pharmacy (AMCP), where he has chaired multiple committees, served on the Board of Directors, and held roles as Treasurer and President. He is a Fellow of AMCP.

A native of Idaho, John earned his Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy from Idaho State University and his Juris Doctor from the University of San Francisco.
