
Kenneth H. Schell, PharmD
RPh
Kenneth H. Schell is a California-based pharmacist and former President of the California State Board of Pharmacy, appointed by Governor Gray Davis and reappointed by Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger. With more than 30 years of experience in clinical pharmacology and pharmaceutical sciences, he has led pharmacy operations in pediatric and adult hospitals, medical groups, home infusion, hospice, and mail order organizations.
Ken currently manages a Central Sterile Compounding Pharmacy and serves as an Assistant Clinical Professor at the UC San Diego Skaggs School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences, where he teaches Pharmacy Law and Ethics. His leadership in hospital pharmacy includes overseeing the implementation of the EPIC electronic medical record system at Rady Children’s Hospital and guiding the design and relocation of Sharp Grossmont Hospital’s Pharmacy, complete with a state-of-the-art sterile compounding clean room meeting USP 797 standards.
He is an active member of the Sharp Healthcare Institutional Review Board, evaluating investigational studies for compliance with federal safety and ethical guidelines. Ken has also served on the Board of Directors of the California Society of Health-System Pharmacists (CSHP) and contributed to CSHP’s Blue Ribbon Committee on Bylaws Review.
Ken’s contributions have earned him the UC San Francisco School of Pharmacy’s 150th Anniversary Alumni Excellence Award, the California Society of Health-System Pharmacists’ Pharmacist of the Year honor, and Fellow status in both the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists and CSHP.
A frequent speaker and educator, Ken has delivered over 100 presentations to community organizations, academic institutions, and professional associations, including keynote addresses at multiple pharmacy events.
